This is our biggest release yet. EarnIt 2.0 gives every family a choice: keep earning real money, or switch the whole app to points. Kids can now attach a photo of a finished chore, and the parent dashboard has been rebuilt around the one question you actually open the app to answer — who still has chores today?

⭐ Money or points — your call

Not every family is ready to hand over real cash, and not every kid is old enough for it to mean much. So EarnIt now runs in one of two modes, and you pick in Settings (or during setup, for new families). In points mode everything works exactly as before — chores, approvals, savings goals, streaks — just with points instead of dollars. It turns EarnIt into a reward chart when that's what you need, and back into an allowance tracker when your kids are ready.

The part we're most careful about: the two never mix. Money balances and point balances are kept completely separate, and switching modes doesn't convert, move, or delete anything. Switch to points and your family's money balances are simply hidden — switch back and they're exactly as you left them, down to the cent. There's no exchange rate, because there shouldn't be one.

Points are whole numbers throughout, and since points are a single pool rather than real money, the Savings / Wallet / Charity split steps aside while you're in points mode.

📸 Photo proof

"I made my bed, promise." Now they can show you. Kids can attach a photo when they finish a chore, and you can make a photo required for any job list — great for the jobs where "done" is a matter of opinion. Approval cards show a thumbnail you can tap to zoom, so you can check and approve in a couple of seconds.

Photos are resized on the device before they upload, so submitting is quick even on a kid's older phone, and proof photos are deleted automatically once you've approved or declined the job. They're evidence, not an album.

🧹 A calmer parent dashboard

The dashboard had grown to hold everything: analytics, an activity feed, per-category balance breakdowns for every child. All useful — but it buried the reason you opened the app. Version 2.0 trims it to what's actionable: approvals waiting on you, each kid with a single clear total, and their savings goals. Analytics still lives on the Analytics tab, and each child's full history is still on their details page — nothing was removed from the app, just from the front page.

🏷️ Clearer buttons

"Log Earning" is now Log Job — one label that makes sense whether a job pays money or points. And the payout button now follows your mode: Payout when you're using money, Redeem Points when you're using points.

🎁 Pick your reward style during setup

New families now choose money or points as part of getting started, with a plain-language explanation of each, so job amounts are entered in the right unit from the very first chore. Choose points and setup is even shorter — the money-split step is skipped entirely, and we save sensible defaults in case you switch later.

🔧 Fixes & polish

  • Job list dates on the web: picking a due date for a custom job list now uses a proper calendar picker instead of a text box.
  • Tidier kid job cards: photo-required jobs no longer crowd the card, and the Remind button no longer overlaps a child's balance on the dashboard.
  • Whole-number points everywhere: amount fields, bonuses and goal targets all switch to whole numbers in points mode, so you can't accidentally set a job to 2.5 points.
  • Translation fixes: several labels that were showing in English (or as raw text) are now properly translated in all five languages.

Update now

Version 2.0 is rolling out on the App Store and Google Play. Existing families are unaffected until you choose to change anything — every family stays on money mode unless you switch it.
